Emergency Notifications

Before an emergency, you can subscribe to services making it easier to be notified of an emergency. And during emergency events, it may be important for you to stay informed of developments. Below are the communication channels used by Civil Defence on the West Coast.

Lert Info

Lert Info is an independent provider of alerts for anything from road conditions to an imminent Tsunami threat. During an emergency event, we will be feeding updates to Lert Info to pass on to their customers. Users can subscribe to SMS Text alerts or just email alerts as well as define what level of alerts, and for what areas.

Twitter Notifications

During events, Civil Defence West Coast will tweet updates from the account @EmergencyWC.

Facebook

Our Facebook page will be a key place for us to publish informative messaging and educational bits from time to time, but it will also be used during emergency events to help us communicate both ways with the public. We will be using this medium to get information out to you during the event, as well as to capture anecdotally what is happening in our communities to help us in decision making.

Radio

Depending on the nature of an emergency event, you may be cut off from the internet. If this is the case, a good source of information will be your local radio station. Below is a table of radio stations we will use during events.
