West Coast prepares for severe weather
Heavy rain warnings, swell alerts and strong gale force winds have been forecasted for much of the West Coast over the next 36 hours.
Combined waves of up to 6 metres along with a 3-metre-high tide could potentially have an impact on some of the lower lying coastal communities.
West Coast Group Controller, John Canning said ,” The predicated gale force winds and heavy rainfall is something we are keeping a close eye on and the Emergency Coordination Centre along with the districts Emergency Operations Centres, have been planning on how they would respond to a weather event whilst keeping in mind we are in alert level 4 for COVID-19”.
“Most people are doing the right thing and staying at home but we would reiterate that no one should be venturing down to the coastline at all over this time.”
